Hi People!!
Everything is super jumbled in our schedule today, so this will be a little brief. And depending on how things go next week with transfers, I might be brief again. My apologies in advance!
This week we ended up doing a ton of service. We did a lot of moving and gardening, which gave us quite the workout in the hot Louisiana sun. It's a testament to how I've changed on my mission though because I definitely would not have been stoked about doing service outside in the heat/humidity, but I absolutely love it now. It's just so much fun to help people out and get to know them better in the process, and everyone just leaves feeling great. Also, it's an opportunity to not be in a skirt, which after a year of being in Sunday dress, opportunities like that are much appreciated. It's gotten to the point where I feel underdressed at church because I'm so used to being in church clothes that I don't feel fancy anymore. I'm sure other sister missionaries can relate.
The highlight of this week was getting to go on exchanges to Kenner again! Seriously major tender mercy that Kenner is still the STL area and I get to go back pretty frequently. The bummer was that it was going to work out perfectly where I could be there for Dana Bucio's baptism and surprise her, but they extended their trip to Georgia and moved the baptism, so I didn't get to go. But I did get to be there for the Father's Day activity (which is funny because I also was there on exchanges for the Mother's Day activity) and it was awesome because I got to see a bunch of people from the ward. Kenner is doing so amazing and the ward/the investigators are thriving! I'm not surprised because Sister Whitney and Sister Portzline are incredible missionaries. I would love to serve in Kenner again someday!
I think that's about it from this week. We were able to make a bunch of progress with our less actives and recent converts which was a huge miracle. Next week we're going to really try to focus on finding prepared people, because we know that there are people in our area right now that are ready to hear the Gospel. We just gotta find 'em!
I just want to give a quick shout out to my dad on account of father's day and on account of he's just amazing. When I was in a human development class at BYU, we learned about how a child's early conception of Heavenly Father is largely based on his/her conception of their earthly father. If a child's father is distant, he/she will think Heavenly Father is distant, etc. I know that that is absolutely true because I can largely attribute my relationship with my Heavenly Father on my relationship with my earthly father. My dad is everything a father should be. He's kind, patient, hard-working, funny, adventurous, strong in the Gospel, and so much more. I always know that he's there for me and that he will love me no matter how dumb I am sometimes. And that's just how our Heavenly Father is. He just wants us to be happy. He is always there for us, and always will be. I know that prayers really are heard and answered. I'm so incredibly grateful for my dad and for his example and love for me. I love you so much dad! Six more months until we can go to King Soopers and buy ice cream and pringles and sushi!
I hope all y'all have the best week ever!
Con amor,
Hermana Sorensen
