Hi People!
Sister Alder and I are staying together in Baton Rouge, making this our FOURTH transfer together! That's pretty unheard of in the mission world, so we're super stoked. Missionary work is a whole lot more fun when you get to do it with your best friend! I think one or both of us will be training next transfer though, so we will probably get split up, and I think we will have separation anxiety after being together for so long. We say the most random things at the exact same time, and we know exactly what the other one is saying when we're describing something like, "do you remember that guy with the hair we met that one time after the thing?" and the other one says "OHHH yeah!! It was right after that guy went to the place that one time!" Anyways, we're pumped to stay together and we're praying for a transfer without lockdowns or any other craziness because this area has great potential and we're excited to see where it goes.
This week everyone decided to go out of town for the last week of summer, so we did a lot of secretarial work like updating the area book and such. The best part of the week was our Meet the Mormons movie night! Our branch president is pretty anti activities because he thinks no one will show up, but we wanted to prove him wrong, so we had a movie night and literally invited everyone and their dog. I don't even know how many calls/texts/flyers were sent out. We were determined to get someone there! Well.... we started the movie with only a couple members about a half hour later than we wanted to start. Then, about half way through the movie, a PART MEMBER FAMILY walks in! I almost cried. It's a family we've been trying to get a hold of forever. Turns out, their work schedules changed so now they can meet with us at night and come to church on Sundays, and the husband WANTS TO GET BAPTIZED. Yep. That happened. The Church is true!
Sorry I have zero time today, but I'll write a lot more next week and I'll send a lot of pictures. I love you all so much! Missions are hard and stressful and crazy, but I absolutely love what we do and who we serve. I hope you all know that I know this Church is true, and that Christ lives. He loves us more than we will ever comprehend, but as we serve others, we can get a hint of that love that He has for them. And it's a beautiful thing.
Have the best week ever!
Con amor,
Hermana Sorensen
