Hola!
I realize that I pretty much start all of my emails with talking about the weather, and I apologize for that. But I have to do it again today, because the heat index is currently 113 right now with humidity. That's just wrong.
I don't have much time today, but I want to tell you about Saturday and also about Wednesday. I'll start with Saturday first. So Saturday was fun... ish... This is how it went, in this order exactly: First, we went to our first appointment which we were pumped about because it was an actual set appointment, andddd it fell through. So no worries, we're fine. We decided to go see their next door neighbor who is the brother of the guy we were trying to see, and our investigators had told us to talk to them. So we went over there, and his wife answers the door and we said, "Hi! We're the sister missionaries! We know your neighbors. Alvarro's brother lives here right?" And the lady says, "no" so we say, "Oh sorry, we must have the wrong house!" and she says, "No, he does. But never come back here again." And slams the door. But whatever, it's fine. Then, we decided to go see some of our investigators who all live on the same street. We went to three houses: 1-doesn't answer 2-doesn't answer, but is clearly home 3-straight up dropped us. "Sorry, I don't want to be rude, but no, I don't want you to come over anymore." 3 strikes and you're out! But no! We are persistent missionaries! So then we tried to see more investigators, and we get stuck in the middle of a huge thunderstorm. But we did get to teach one lesson, so that was nice. After that, it was about 4 pm and we had tried everyone we had on our list that day. We decided to go through our ward roster and try to find all of the Hispanic people. None of them were home. We eventually got to this apartment complex, where allegedly a member lives, and we walked around to the other side and there were about 6 drunk Hispanic guys blasting music. Two of them came up to us (despite trying to avoid them at all costs) and they were trying to hit on us super blatantly. They said that they were interested in the church, so when they asked us for our number, we gave them the Spanish elders' number and gave the elders 2 new referrals that day! :) This is what missions are really like sometimes, and all you can do is laugh, really, really hard.

Wednesday, however, was amazing! We had zone conference and Elder Kopischke from the first quorum of the seventy and his wife came and it was easily the best zone conference we've ever had! Just like Elder Rasband, he came with zero things prepared. He started off by asking us what we wanted to learn about. What he ended up talking about most of the time was about magnifying our callings, and how first we have to know why we were called on account of who we are. He went pretty deep into who we truly are as sons and daughters of God, and how we were chosen before we were born to do the work we're doing right now. I wish I had a copy of everything he talked about, because it was just so powerful. He talked about how our calling is absolutely not to prepare people for the Gospel, but to teach the Gospel in a way that those that Heavenly Father has prepared will recognize it. I've been thinking a lot about that this week and how we really are spiritual beings, and how this work is something much greater than something young Mormon kids do for 18 months-2 years. This is the work of salvation. When I think about it that way, it makes me both terrified and hopeful. Terrified because it means I have a lot of responsibility, but hopeful because I know that God has prepared me, and is still helping me to do what we have to do. Like I said, the whole thing was just amazing. We really are all children of God. It's that simple.
I love you all so much! Have the best week ever, and enjoy non-humidity for me!
Con amor,
Hermana Sorensen
