Hello Everyone!
I hope you all have survived the election week and are not planning on moving to Canada, as most of the missionaries here have threatened to do. The only thing I will say about the election is that we have seen first-hand the insane racism that has been sparked from what happened. These sweet Hispanics we love have told us so many stories this week of awful things that people say to them in stores, on the streets, and even to their kids at school. It makes me sick. I have never met a more hard-working, family oriented, loving, generous, and faithful group of people in my life, and it makes me so sad that people are saying all these terrible things to them. We've been doing a lot of testifying this week about how we're all God's children and that He's the one in charge, and that He has a perfect plan, and that everything will work out.
This week was great! For some reason so many things cancelled and it was hard to find people, but somehow we still had crazy awesome packed days. It used to be that the days went slow but the weeks went fast, but now the days go fast and the weeks go insanely fast. There is just so much to do, and so little time to do it. We always say that we need about 6 more hours in the day, to have a couple extra hours of study time, a few extra hours of proselyting time, and I mean an extra hour of sleep wouldn't hurt either. :)
Speaking of things cancelling though, we get a lot of lame excuses for why people can't meet with us, but this one was one of the best/worst. On Saturday night, we called this family we used to see all the time but they stopped progressing so we had to back off a little bit. We just asked how they were doing and they said, "Oh we're great! We've had a ton of work this week, but this weekend we're just resting and not really doing anything at all!" I said, "Oh that's awesome! We were actually planning on being around your neighborhood tonight, and we were wondering if we could just stop by for a few minutes?" And then the famous pause. And he says, and I quote: "Umm.. well.. we're just SO busy right now, like we just have so much to do, so I don't think we'll be able to fit y'all in. And.. tomorrow too. Yeah, tomorrow we just have so much to do. Thanks for the invite though!!" We were just like alllrrriighttyy then... Things like that used to frustrate me, but now I just laugh. I do wish people would just tell us straight to our faces if they don't want to see us any more though instead of leading us on.

One super cool family we met this week is a refugee family from Iraq. We tracted into them, and now we're best friends. They don't speak a ton of English (they speak Arabic) so it's been fun to try to describe things to each other. They were telling us about all the things they've been through from having to leave Iraq, to moving to Jordan and Lebanon and Syria and then finally Egypt, and then now to the United States (they've been here since March). It's amazing what people have to go through to just get some peace. They were telling us how it's so sad that people think they're terrible people just because they're Muslim, because most Muslims are amazing, faithful people, but they get judged by the handful of crazies that claim to believe the same thing. It's also been a super cool experience because you can tell that they're looking for something more. They talked about how they have a great love for Jesus Christ, and they feel something telling them that they need to learn more about him. SO COOL! They are the sweetest, humblest little family, and we're already so close after only seeing them a few times. I'm so excited to see where things go with them!!
Every day is a new adventure as a missionary. I love that even though we plan every night what we're going to do, you still have no clue what's going to happen that day. You never know what miracles or hilariously random things are in your path.
I love you all dearly! Have the best week ever!
Con amor,
Hermana Sorensen
